29 Things You Should Know

Back at it again my peeps! 29 things today! Woo! Let's see if we can do this!

1. It's my sister Kelsie's birthday. She also has a blog. She is turning 20! Holy cow! I can't believe it! I am so glad she is my sister! Here is her blog link. Check it out! http://kelsieinthekitchen.blogspot.com/

2. I have a biology test on Tuesday. That's kinda a big deal in my little bubble of a world.

3. Cells are pretty cool. I learned that in biology. What I did not hear was how creative and powerful God was when He created them. But, I could see that even if I am at a secular school.

4. Have you ever written an annotated bibliography? They are new methods to torturing English major students. Not making it up.

5. I wanted Asian food for lunch. I didn't get it. Maybe dinner?

6. Fall, I believe, is officially here.

7. I went downtown last night. That was scary.

8. I also saw a fabulous "concert" last night. It was with the Colorado Symphony and a man that sings Frank Sinatra songs, and I am telling you, it is uncanny how much he sounds like Frank Sinatra. It was awesome. I was pleasantly surprised.

9. Can you believe I have done these for 3 or is it 4 weeks in a row? Shocking I know.

10. I made 2 more fall wreaths. I promise, I will put up directions in case anyone is interested.

11. I have been making my own lattes at home. And, it is delicious!

12. It is amazing how much laundry a household generates in 2 weeks.

13. I really like corn mazes.

14. I have not read any interesting books lately. Which is a shame. School tends to monopolize my time I find.

15. Is it just me, or is keeping a bedroom clean almost as impossible as shoveling when it is still snowing? Just me? Alright.

16. Pinterest makes me laugh a lot. I love reading funny things on it.

17. I am running out of things to say.

18. It is almost October. Woot! Closer to Thanksgiving and then Christmas break.

19. I love love love Christmas. Everything about it.

20. I went on the Light Rail last night. That can be fun, also kind of scary.

21. I would like to give a shout-out to the person who invented the TI-83 Plus calculator. You are my hero.

22. Honestly, I love my church. I really don't know what I would do without my church and the people in my church.

23. I finished learning "Golligog's Cake Walk" on the piano. It is probably the most fun I have had learning a classical piece on the piano.

24. I love waking up and getting ready in the morning listening to Christian music. It gets my day going right!

25. I rearranged my room this week. I don't think I really like it any better than the other way, but because it is new, I like it. I like change.

26. I hope I get to go to the mountains to see the beautiful fall colors.

27. I want a pair of brown boots. But I found that I am particular about what I want. So I haven't bought any yet.

28. If you are still reading this, I am impressed. No seriously. Impressed.

29. How 'bout them Broncos lately? YAY!

Another "Things You Should Know Post" Part 2... Is This a Series???

Well, I kinda am a fan of these "Things You Should Know" so I think I am going to do a series of them. This time, is it 22 things you should know.

1. You know how I was telling you about doing a series? Well chances are the series isn't going to last very long. Be forewarned. I don't like to get stuck in ruts.

2. Telling you 22 things is a lot.

3. My sister's birthday is this week. Shout out to her! Happy Birthday! 20! No longer a teen. *insert crying*

4. Friends are the bees knees.

5. Where did that saying come from anyways?

6. I made THE CUTEST wreath today. Love love love it.

7. I cleaned the house yesterday. So it is NO FUN while cleaning it, but HEAVENS is it nice to have a clean room.

8. I rearranged my room yesterday. Not sure if I like it, but it's something new. I am always into something new.

9. Carrie Underwood is "Marie Von Trapp" in Sound of Music remake. Okay. First of all, why make a remake. It implies there is something wrong with the first one, WHICH THERE ISN'T! And secondly, I love Carrie Underwood, but bless her heart, that girls CANNOT ACT! SO ya, not thrilled with that now.

10. I used a lot of capitalization in number 9. Sorry.

11. I want food. I am pretty hungry. It is 8:46 when I write this. I need dinner.

12. Tomorrow is my last violin lesson. I am kinda excited/kinda sad about this.

13. My dog kept me up till 1 last night. It's a good thing I love her so much. It could have been dangerous for her if my love was not so high.

14. My closet I organized in July is still organized. I am pretty proud about that.

15. I love sleep. I slept till noon on Saturday. Don't tell my grandpa. I would never hear the end of it. Something about wasting a whole day. Which is true, but what a wonderful way to waste it! Because I so needed that sleep.

16. What is the big deal about pumpkin spice lattes. SOOO overrated. I love chai teas with no water in case anyone is wondering. Or wants to get me something. I would be TOTALLY fine with that! Ha!

17. It finally stopped raining. Whoop!

18. I miss my friends who moved from college. SO not cool! Come baaaacccckkkkk!

19. Fall is officially here.

20. Almost to 22!!!

21. School is crazy for me. I had a test every day last week. Crazcraz!

22. We have arrived to number 22. So, this is all I know. Have a wonderful week! If you made it to here I am impressed. Soup weather! Random. But I love soup! Alright! Over and out!

P.S. Here is a picture of the wreath.

15 Things You Should Know

15 things I will update you on because today is Sunday September 15th, and I need no other reason I suppose.

1. I flunked a test for the first time in college. In biology. It's a great feeling, let me tell you. Wouldn't recommend the absolute high you get after seeing the score. Not for the faint of heart. I was among 75% of the class that flunked the test. I haven't figured out if that makes me feel better or not. I'm thinking not.

2. I was going to run a relay with 9 other people over a period of 24 hours and 200 miles. That got cancelled because of Colorado's ever changing climate. Thank you for the rock slides and flash floods and Seattle-like weather. Or not.

3. There is flooding happening everywhere in Colorado. Please keep everyone in Colorado in your thoughts and prayers. People's houses are being flooded, destroyed, and swept away. There are also over 500 people still missing. Please pray for safety.

4. I just had the best coffee at Peet's Coffee and Tea. Better than Starbucks. It's amazing. And no. This is not a commercial. Simply a "It changed my life, let it change your's" type of coffee moment. Because I am addicted to coffee. I really like these life changing moments.

5. It's raining as I speak. Shocker.

6. I have a stats test tomorrow. That should be fun.

7. I had a simply fantastic weekend with my two best friends, and it made me very happy.

8. I bought a few "new" clothes. New for me, but from a second hand store that sells name brand clothing. Awesomeness. My wallet is still mourning its loss though.

9. After September, I am no longer taking violin lessons.

10. I rather love fall. I want some brown boots.

11. I'm running out of things to say. In case you haven't noticed.

12. I love going to church, especially my church. It's warm and welcoming, and I love my family= church family. Well and my "real" family too.

13. I met someone at church today that lives in Hawaii. I am jealous. I want that life. Surfing, beach, sunshine, seafood. Need I say more? I mean, besides my best friend and possibly my cousin, who wouldn't want to live on a beach in Hawaii?

14. We had pot roast for lunch today. Almost nothing can beat pot roast on a rainy Sunday afternoon. I think this is the 4th time I have mentioned rain. Can you see I am a little amazed about this phenomenon?

15. "Insert something witty or inspiring", because my brain is fried and all I can think about is the stats definitions running through my mind. Be inspired. Laugh. I don't know. Think of something.

Have a wonderful week!

<3,
Sarah

P.S. I love the fact that I call my best friend Watson and she calls me Sherlock. I love seeing Watson pop up on my phone every time she texts me. It makes me smile. Anyways. I'm finished.

Distraction

Dear Guys,

We often hear messages in youth group, at conferences, at camp, etc about modesty. We (girls) are told to be careful about what we wear so that guys can be careful about what they see and think. We hear things like keep your shorts to this length, shirts are to be high up, pants and shirts not too tight, but not too loose. I haven't heard one message about making sure guys help girls out by dressing modest themselves.

Girls are told that guys are more visual; therefore, we must dress so that they look at our countenance and not our body. I would like to let the guys in on a secret. Girls are visual also. We just don't tend to obsess over it as much as guys. Girls do in fact, notice a handsome or cute guy. Girls notice what guys are wearing and where they are wearing it. Girls can get distracted by what a guy wears, how he wears something, and the way he looks, just as much as a guy noticing a girl when she walks past and he "checks her out". I know that girls' thoughts do not tend to go as in depth as guys' do; however, I do know that lusting after a person or having thoughts that are not pure are a sin regardless of how much you dwell on it or how detailed you get in your thoughts. Guys do struggle more with their thought life and what they see and how that affects their thought life. This is why preaching is so often about keeping thoughts pure for guys, and the girls are taught about dressing modestly. But, this is a letter to you guys out there. I want you to know what is tempting for me, so that perhaps, you can come away after reading this with better knowledge of what goes through a girl's mind when she sees someone attractive to her.  Guys, just as we try to dress to give you as little temptation as possible, I am challenging you to dress so we are not tempted either.

Summer time. The time of tanks, trunks, shorts, and no shirts. Girls are attracted to a guy that looks like he works out at the gym. That's no secret really, but when you wear tanks or cut off t-shirts and we can see straight through the shirt, that's distracting. We are encouraged not to wear see-through shirts so that you cannot see our bras. I find a tank that is so loose you see under it or through it is extremely distracting on a guy just as distracting as I am sure it is for you to see us not fully clothed.

No shirts is a big thing for me. It may not seem like a big thing, but just as guys are going to notice a girl in a bikini, girls notice when guys don't wear shirts. It might be nice to work without a shirt, or it's hot when you are mowing lawns or landscaping so just taking off the shirt is nice. It also allows a perfect opportunity for you to get a tan, but really guys, please do us a favor, and keep a shirt on. This will help our thought life a lot. When you walk past a magazine that has a scantily clad woman on the cover, it is hard for you to think of much else. This is the same thing when we walk past a guy that has foregone a shirt.

Pants. I'm not sure why this is the case in our culture, but it is cool for a guy to wear low riding pants. All I ask is that your pants stay up. Seriously. That is why someone made a belt. That's the purpose of it after all. Yes, they look cool, but they also serve a purpose. It's not tempting necessarily for us when you don't keep your pants on your hips, but it is distracting, and it is also uncomfortable for us. With that in mind, keeping your shirt long enough to be tucked in, so we don't see your boxers when you lean over would be nice also. We endeavor to keep our lower backs covered, so you aren't tempted. Please help us by doing the same.

Pictures. Did you know that when men see women in bikinis, we turn from a "she" to an "it". We are no longer a person to treasure but a possession to be owned. Your minds do a switch. This has been researched by both Christian and non-Christian scientist, it's true. You might admit this, you might not. Consequently when girls post pictures Facebook titled, "Day at the Beach" or "Our Family Vacation in Hawaii" or "The Best Days of Our Lives", you automatically know that there are going to be girls in some type or form of swimsuit. And your mind most likely go to a spot that should not be visited until you are married. I have a confession to make. When I see a guy without his shirt, and he is at the beach in his trunks, my mind does not immediately go, "Wow. Pretty sand, stunning sky, and what clear, blue water." No, rather it goes, "Wow, he looks really good without his shirt on. Or hm, he's awful nice to look at that." It's hard to keep our thoughts on the beach or the faces in the picture. So I ask you to think about what pictures you put up on Facebook, so that when I am innocently scrolling through my feed, I am not hit with a million pictures of guys without shirts. Now, this does not affect me in the same way a guy sees a girl who is inappropriately dressed. Our thoughts are not on the same route perhaps, but they are still on the same impure road. They still affect me in a way that is not godly. It is also my duty to make sure I end those thoughts by bringing something good and pure to mind as Scripture commands us to do.

Please guys, help us just as we try to help you. Keep in mind what you are wearing, so we won't be distracted by what you are wearing. Thank you!

A grateful girl,
Sarah
