May we never forget the sacrifice made.
A Soldier's Life Not Free.
They fight till death or capture,
and sacrifice all that be.
They give the thing most valuable
A soldier's life not free.
He runs into a burning house
no thought about himself.
He blindly searches through the house
still searching for the girl.
He falls unconscious and
lands beside, the little girl found dead.
His breathing stopped so slowly, while the lumber crashes down.
Sacrificed the life he had, no easy feat indeed.
So willing to give up the life
that helped him do the deed.
The deed so valiantly attempted
that took his very life.
The strength it took,
the life he had
with love was freely given.
The gift of freedom to a nation
Who oft forgets the truth.
That freedom is not freely given,
But fought and got for truth.
He went about his business,
Not once expecting praise.
People judged so harshly
Of the wars across the seas.
Not once did he stand up and speak
to correct the misconceptions.
Not ever did he tell of friends he lost that dark, hot night.
He simply went on serving,
And fought for what is right.
He fought to give them freedom,
the freedom to hate the war.
He never grumbled, never faltered,
Simply went about his day,
keeping in mind the ones he loves
and protecting them each long day.
His love of country, love of freedom,
Pride in what he did,
Should make us all step back and stare
At the fallen hero
Who's no longer here.
We thank the ones still standing,
Who are bereft without their friends.
We stand with them,
Grieving the loss of a friend that once was standing.
Lest we forget the sacrifice,
The soldier made that day.
The soldier fought for something.
Freedom is not free.
